Vulnerability and risk information systems

Urban development projects are usually complex tasks where failures based on environmental circumstances, such as flooding or strong winds, can cause disastrous outcomes. With the introduction of digital technologies and the availability of large amounts of data, various data-driven methods have been developed to inform leaders of such projects upfront on future situations and any possible effects of planned developments. This allows stakeholders to assess risks, evaluate designs and identify possible mitigations of, for instance, flood-related causes within the planning. The integration of such analyses within computational urban modeling increases the level of information and therefore leads to more sustainable decisions for future urban developments.
